Private Investigators and their Role Supporting Victims of Adult Grooming

A private investigator, AKA a private detective, is employed by a client, be that an individual or an organization to do what it says on the tin - investigate.

Private investigators commonly explore personal and/or civil issues.

Common ways that they may be of help in grooming cases:

·        Financial issues

This might include looking for evidence of fraud/theft or establishing the truth about a situation.

·        Fidelity

If you suspect sexual grooming, a private detective may be able to put your mind at ease, or find you vital evidence.

·        Background checks

You want to check someone out? A PI can undertake surveillance, check records, trace people….

·        Help collating evidence

One of the hardest things to deal with when you’ve been groomed is persuading the police to take it seriously. Whilst they SHOULD go and look for evidence, the truth is that they are thinly spread.

By presenting the right evidence, the right way, they are more likely to act.

Whilst they can gather evidence, it’s up to the Police and the justice system to take it from there in terms of arrests or criminal court cases.

  • Interviewing people to gather information

When we want to know the truth of a situation, marching up and demanding information is not an option.

How they work

PIs can achieve a lot whilst based on a computer, and may go out ‘on surveillance’. They must obey the law in the same way as any other individual. If not, evidence collected will be unusable in court, if that’s where things are headed, and they can be prosecuted in the same way as any other individual.

There are very few individuals who can’t somehow be traced – like it or not, the online World has plenty of secrets to give up if we know where to look.

CAAGe recommended supplier

Having hd previous negative experiences of PI firms, the team at CAAGe (The Campaign Against Adult Grooming) is happy to recommend P&D on the basis of P&D’s own user recommendations, but more importantly the experience of one of the families we were working alongside. By having someone trustworthy to recommend, we hope we’ll make finding help that much easier for victims of grooming.
