Counselling at CAAGe

Traditional counselling can feel like victim blaming to someone who has been targeted by a groomer. Victim's reality often feels distorted, and they need time and space to make sense of it, although they may never find an answer to the question 'why?'. But we believe that it's better to help people learn to live with that and to enjoy life after grooming rather than label them BPD, co-dependent or automatically assuming a lack of boundaries.

Of course, for some people this may hold true, but our counsellors are grooming and trauma informed and able to offer you appropriate solutions for your own circumstances.

Our counsellors have experience with grooming that specifically qualifies them to offer support.

Wider representation of sex/gender/sexuality in our mix of counsellors.

At CAAGe we are conscious that for people who have been groomed life is hard enough. Having someone who explicitly understands their own lived experience may sometimes be appealing (and, it must be said, sometimes the reverse applies - it’s simply about choice.)

We are therefore pro actively seeking counsellors to join us from specific communities.

    Read more: HERE

Please note that seeking wider representation on our ‘panel’ of counsellors does not mean that we plan to stereotype our counsellors to work solely with one particular cohort of victim/survivors unless they so choose, rather to offer a wider choice to victim/survivors and increase diversity within CAAGe itself.

We are also happy to refer people to specialist counsellors within other grooming-informed organisations.
